Andrew Newell (Managing Director)
Andrew Newell (Managing Director) has worked in the investment industry and venture capital for 25 years as a specialist in intellectual property and copyrights within the brands and media industries, and now in medical technology. Most recently he was Investment Director for Proven Private Equity and a partner of Media Ventures Partners, both leading media investors with demonstrable success in delivering value to shareholders.
A graduate of Magdalen College, Oxford and the London Business School, Andrew has previously worked in investment for Oppenheimer, Enskilda Securities and Fidelity International.
Dr Mark Fisher (Chief Technology Officer)
Dr Mark Fisher (Chief Technology Officer) is a medical academic and scientist with a proven track record in commercialising technology in the diagnostics field. As a post-graduate at University College London, his PHD in immunodiagnostics was spun out into London Biotechnology Ltd. After a long career as a research fellow at UCL he worked as a commercial scientist with Zetatronics, a genebased diagnostics developer. Most recently Mark managed Ventures for Health, the NHS Innovations Hub for one of the NHS's largest areas, West London.
An alumni of Southbank University where he graduated on one of the first biotechnology courses to be offered in the UK, Mark has experience in all aspects of medical technology development from workbench to manufacturing.
Dr Fraser Harvie (Technology Director)
Dr Fraser Harvie (Technology Director) has 15 years experience in medical design and development. He first joined Smith & Nephew Group Research Centre where he initially worked on polymeric drug delivery systems for ocular and dermal applications. At the US Endoscopy unit in Boston he assumed responsibility for the research and development of, initially, resorbable polymeric medical implants for arthroscopic sports medicine, and then of vascular products. He subsequently returned to the UK to start a medical design consultancy and to work with SRA Developments Ltd to develop business in ultrasonic haemostatic cutting instrumentation for general and gynaecology surgery.
Fraser graduated from Strathclyde University with a degree in Chemistry and subsequently took a PhD in hydrogel polymers and drug delivery.
Michael Herbert (Chairman)
Michael Herbert (Chairman) has over 25 years experience in business and is now a full time business angel. He invests in start-up and early stage businesses, in each case working closely with management teams. His focus is on adding value through practical commercial advice drawn from his own successful business experience.
Educated at Cambridge University and the London Business School, and after a period in brand management with Procter and Gamble, Michael created Wyvern Crest in 1980, a publishing and direct marketing services business which he sold in 1999. He then acquired a controlling interest in Fenman Ltd, another publishing business, which he sold in 2004 for more than double its acquisition value.
Peter Mountford (Adviser to the Board)
Peter Mountford (Adviser to the Board) is a partner in Bradmount Capital Partners LLP, a well known investment boutique, specialising in the healthcare sector and other high growth areas. Peter is a highly experienced financier who has invested in a number of highly successful and high profile companies including RWS Holdings plc and GW Pharmaceuticals plc. Peter qualified at Arthur Andersen where he was one of the founding directors of Arthur Andersen Corporate Finance. He was subsequently seconded to the Takeover Panel where he advised on many high profile takeovers and public company transactions.
